Vaporizer temperature: The best setting for cannabinoids

What’s actually the right vaporizer temperature? Too hot and you burn off valuable terpenes, too cold and the cannabinoids won’t even vaporize. In this guide, we’ll show you the best vaporizer settings – from gentle to maximum – including a temperature chart for cannabinoids and terpenes.

🌡️ Vaporizer Temperature Guide

Why vaporizer temperature is so important

When you vape with a vaporizer, temperature is the key factor. Unlike burning – where everything is released at once – you can use precise vaporizer settings to control exactly which active ingredients you activate.

Every cannabinoid and every terpene has its own boiling point. CBD starts to vaporize at around 160–180 °C. THC and THC-like compounds like THCV or CBN need higher temperatures. If you start too low, you lose out on effects. If you go too high, you risk burning and releasing unwanted byproducts.

💡 Remember

Vaporizers vaporize, they don’t burn. The difference starts at the temperature: Below 230 °C it’s vapor – above that, it’s smoke.

140–165 °C

Vaporizer Temperature Chart: All the Degrees at a Glance

This table gives you a quick overview: Which vaporizer setting creates which effect – and what’s happening chemically at each temperature level?

Temperature Level Main actives Effect Best for
140–160 °C Low Terpenes, CBD Light, clear head Beginners, daytime use
161–165 °C Low+ CBD, CBG, terpenes Relaxed, functional Focus, morning routine
166–175 °C Medium CBD, THC (trace), CBC Balanced, relaxing Afternoon, chilling
176–185 °C Medium+ THC, CBD, CBN Strong, sedating Evening, sleep
186–200 °C High THC, THCV, sesquiterpenes Very intense Experienced users
201–210 °C High+ Cannabinol breakdown products Maximum extraction Final extraction stage
211–230 °C Limit Ash ⚠ Smoke possible Not recommended

📌 Note on disposable vapes

TAC Vapes like the ones from Happy's Amsterdam have a preset operating temperature right in the optimal range – you don’t have to adjust anything manually.

Cannabinoids & their boiling points

Cannabinoids are the actives that mainly determine the effect of a vape. Each compound has a specific boiling point – the temperature at which it turns into vapor and can be inhaled.

Cannabinoid Boiling point Type Main effect
CBD 160–180 °C non-psychoactive Relaxation, focus, anti-inflammatory
CBG approx. 52 °C (oil) non-psychoactive Mood boosting, antibacterial
CBC approx. 160–180 °C non-psychoactive Entourage effect, mood
THC 157–200 °C psychoactive Euphoria, pain relief, appetite
